Domestic Abuse Project (DAP)

The DAP Advocacy Program provides legal advocacy during the criminal process to victim/survivors of domestic assault arrests in Minneapolis. DAP also provides therapy and prevention services. The pro bono program serves low-income survivors of domestic abuse who need legal services in areas including primarily landlord/tenant and family law particularly divorces with children and/or abuse, post-decree custody, order for protection hearings and child support, immigration and, occasionally, criminal defense for battered women defendents. Many clients need only a telephone consultation. Others need full representation. Attorneys may also provide training for staff and do research. Attorneys must be knowledgeable in the areas of law in which they accept referrals. DAP will provide training on domestic abuse issues. Law students may do legal research, special projects and direct legal advocacy.
