As its mission, the Center for Law and Education (CLE) strives to make the right of all students to quality education a reality throughout the nation and to enable communities to address their own public education problems effectively, with an emphasis on assistance to low-income communities.

For almost forty years, as a national support center and an advocacy organization, CLE has provided daily assistance to educators, parents, students, and advocates experiencing difficulty in the implementation of key education programs and initiatives at local and state levels that are linked to reform of the core education program of schools.

A significant part of CLE's work in MA focuses on working to increase the capacity to help meet the needs of low-income students in areas of the state (e.g. central and western MA) where there are minimal options for free legal assistance on education issues. The students include those with disabilities, students facing school disciplinary exclusions and students who are otherwise being deprived  of effective education and related services.  CLE is interested in leveraging and expanding its Pro Bono Education Partnership, a collaboration with Choate, Hall & Stewart and the Charles Hamilton Houston Institute for Race and Justice at Harvard Law School, in which CLE provides training and mentoring to Choate attorneys who represent low-income students on a pro bono basis in administrative hearings at the school, district and state levels, as well as in court.
