The Massachusetts Law Reform Institute (MLRI) is the statewide poverty law center whose mission is to advance economic, racial and social justice through legal action, legislative and administrative advocacy, coalition building and public information. MLRI engages in large-scale legal initiatives and reforms that address the root causes of poverty; address and remove systemic barriers to justice and opportunity; and create a path to stability for low-income individuals, families and communities. MLRI has three primary goals and objectives:

1) to address public and institutional policies and procedures that either contribute to, or perpetuate, the cycle of poverty;

2) to ensure that low-income and traditionally underserved populations across the state are provided the same legal protections, rights and liberties enjoyed by all members of society;

3) as the statewide back-up support center for the Massachusetts civil legal services delivery system, to provide local legal services providers and other community-based advocacy organizations with the legal expertise, technical assistance, support, and trainings they need to best serve their individual clients.
