Civil legal services directors and staff are invited to participate in an open hearing on the ABA Standards for Providers of Legal Services to the Poor. The hearing will be held from 2:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, December 3 at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, D.C., in conjunction with the National Legal Aid and Defender Association's Annual Conference. The ABA Standing Committee on Legal Aid and Indigent Defendants is undertaking a comprehensive review of the 1986 Standards, to identify areas where revision may be needed. The hearing will address whether Standards continue to provide relevant guidance in light of changes in the legal services community, including delivery system realignment, new funder restrictions, revised ethical rules, and new technologies. Please contact Mickey Glascott at the ABA if you wish to testify (312-988-5750 or email@example.com). A copy of the ABA Standards may be downloaded from http://www.abalegalservices.org. There will be at least two more hearings during the first six months of 2005.
