VLSP's Minors' Counsel Panel
VLSP is pleased to announce an opportunity for our active family law volunteer attorneys to join VLSP's Minor's Counsel Panel. Requirements to join the panel are listed below.
This panel is in conjunction with BASF's Lawyer Referral and Information Service (LRIS) Minor's Counsel Panel, and volunteer attorneys may take pro bono cases through VLSP to qualify for the LRIS Panel. This is a great opportunity for a family law volunteer attorney who is interested in representing children in family court.
Requirements:
- Within the past 5 years, applicant must have represented parents or minors in a minimum of 5 family law cases, at least 2 of which involved contested OSC hearings; and
- Within the past three years, applicant must have handled either a) one child custody hearing with witnesses OR b) three child custody or visitation disputes, one of which must have been a child custody matter which went through the evaluation process; and
- Within the past three years, applicant must have represented and interviewed minors in five dependency, probate, immigration and/or family law proceedings.
Please note that ALL attorneys, whether through VLSP or LRIS, must meet requirements 1 and 2.
If you do not meet the third qualification, watching a 2-day taped training and volunteering on 2 pro bono minor's counsel cases fulfills the requirement of representing and interviewing children in previous proceedings.
