This training will focus on processing family visa petitions. It is designed for paralegals, accredited representatives, and attorneys relatively new to the field, as well as for experienced service providers who want a review and comprehensive overview of recent developments.

This full day program will cover the process of family immigration, including visa categories, definition of qualified relatives, use of priority dates, filing procedures, adjustment of status eligibility (including recent developments in 245(i) adjustment), consular processing, and the grounds of inadmissibility, with special emphasis on the three- and ten-year bars.

Dan Torres, ILRC Staff Attorney
Dan's work includes combating immigration provider fraud, conducting know your rights presentations, providing technical assistance to pro bono attorneys who are handling cases in the federal courts of appeals, and serving as the ILRC's Attorney of the Day. He is also the co-author of ILRC's publication, Motions to Suppress. Before joining the ILRC, Dan represented clients as a staff attorney at the California Rural Legal Assistance Foundation in Sacramento, worked as a clinical instructor at the UC Davis School of Law Immigration Law Clinic, and served as a staff attorney for the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.

Genevieve Kramer, Attorney and Immigration Implementation Coordinator, UFW Foundation, Los Angeles
Genevieve joined the UFW Foundation in September 2007, and oversees two BIA-Recognized immigration services programs in Salinas and Bakersfield, California. Her current caseload consists primarily of family immigration law matters, including unlawful presence waivers and consular processing. Before joining the UFW Foundation, she represented clients seeking asylum and other forms of relief from deportation at the Law Office of Robert B. Jobe in San Francisco. She has also worked for the ACLU Immigrant Rights' Project and the San Francisco Public Defender.
