The History and Mission of VLSP
VLSP was formed in 1981 to mobilize private attorneys in the greater Rochester region to provide pro bono legal services to our community's poor. In the summer of 1981, seventy-five attorneys joined as charter members of VLSP's volunteer panel. Two decades later, the pro bono panel has more than 700 attorney and paralegal members who provide a wide array of civil legal help to low income clients.
To improve the quality of life of low income residents of Monroe County by ensuring the existence of a readily available panel of skilled volunteer attorneys to resolve serious legal problems.
