On behalf of Rutgers Law Review, I would like to invite you to attend our 2008 Symposium entitled "The United Nations Genocide Convention: A 60th Anniversary Commemoration." On Friday, April 4, 2008, Rutgers Law Review, in conjunction with the Rutgers Center for the Study of Genocide and Human Rights, will host a gathering of international scholars to reflect on the past, present, and future of the Convention.
Our morning panel will discuss the events that led to the drafting and ratification of the Genocide Convention, as well as its history, and its future. Our second panel will reflect on the application of the Convention by examining case studies involving international tribunals that have assembled since its ratification. In the afternoon, our panel will examine the legal duty to prevent genocide that is imposed on the international community by the Convention.
Our keynote speaker, Juan E. Mendez of the International Center for Transitional Justice and 2007 recipient of a Doctorate Honoris Causa from the University of Quebec at Montreal, will close the symposium at 5:30 p.m.
We will also serve a complimentary breakfast and lunch, and our keynote address will be followed by a cocktail reception. A schedule, including the current list of speakers, can be found at http://pegasus.rutgers.edu/~review/symposium08.php.
