The tax treatment and reporting of cancelled debt is complex and poses a significant challenge for affected taxpayers. This program will consider the tax consequences of cancelled debt, exceptions to income recognition, related reductions in tax attributes, and reporting requirements. The program will also cover changes in the law pursuant to the Mortgage Forgiveness Debt Relief Act of 2007 and the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008.
