Child Neglect and Abuse

Thursday October 08 , 2009

This legal education workshop will take you through the progression of a child welfare case - from the time a call is made to the State Central Registry of Child Abuse and Neglect to the making of a dispositional order by the judge in an abuse and neglect case. It will explain who the players are in court, the legal terminology that is used, and the different kinds of hearings that are held, including the reasons for those hearings. You will learn about your rights and responsibilities if you have an ongoing Family Court case for child abuse or neglect. Workshop attendees will receive LIFT's Legal Resource Guides "Child Protective Proceedings Rights and Responsibilities," and "Termination of Parental Rights."
