This training will provide a basic overview of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) and federal regulations for sponsoring family members for lawful permanent residence. Topics to be covered include petitioning for immediate relatives and family-based preference immigrants, the various categories of children that qualify for sponsorship (e.g., stepchildren, adopted children, etc.). This training is recommended before taking "Family-Based Immigration Law: Part 2," which will cover situations of when the "family" breaks down and its impact on an immigration case. This training will be conducted by Jennie Guilfoyle, Esq. of the Catholic Legal Immigration Network, Inc. (CLINIC).

Attendance at trainings is limited to staff of NYIC member agencies and the staff of government agencies, BIA-recognized agencies, and 501(c) nonprofit organizations that provide legal services under the direct supervision of an immigration attorney. The training will be conducted by Jennie Guilfoyle, Esq. of the Catholic Legal Immigration Network, Inc. (CLINIC).

A fee will be charged for this training.
