Legal Aid Society Seeks Volunteers for New DACA Clinic Dates
Monday, September 24, 2012
- Organization: Legal Aid Society
The Legal Aid Society has added new October clinic dates to meet the high demand for assistance with filing the Deferred Action and Employment Authorization (work permit) applications for young New Yorkers who were brought to the United States as children and have no lawful status. To date, the clinics have been attended by approximately 700 clients who have been assisted by close to 250 volunteers working with Legal Aid staff. The weekly clinics were capped at 75 applicants, forcing us to turn away clients by requesting they attend a later clinic date.
As with our previous clinics, all volunteers will be supervised by experienced Legal Aid immigration attorneys who will be present at the clinic. Additionally, the applicants will be screened by Legal Aid attorneys to insure they meet the application's qualification guidelines. A brief overview of the application process will be provided at each training; however, we request that all volunteers view the webinar video posted on probono.net.
We look forward to working with you and your colleagues to ensure that qualified applicants receive high quality comprehensive legal assistance. Please contact the Pro Bono Administrator, Emily Bormann, at firstname.lastname@example.org to sign up to staff the clinics listed below.
