This training will provide a basic overview of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) and federal regulations for sponsoring family members for lawful permanent residence. Topics to be covered include petitioning for immediate relatives and family-based preference immigrants, the various categories of children that qualify for sponsorship (e.g., stepchildren, adopted children, etc.). This training is recommended before taking "Family-Based Immigration Law: Part 2," which will cover situations of when the "family" breaks down and its impact on an immigration case. This training will be conducted by Thomas J. Shea, Esq. of the NYIC. A fee will be charged for this training.

In case of economic hardship, fee waiver or reduction may be available upon request.
