Every year thousands of teenagers "age out" of the foster care system. Before individuals in foster care are released a "discharge plan" must be in place. This training will provide an overview of discharge planning, including their rights and responsibilities, as well as goal setting and planning for the future. We will discuss the child welfare system, available resources, including an overview of public benefits, such as Cash Assistance, Medicaid, Food Stamps and SSI. We will also cover assistance in finding housing, available educational opportunities, and employment programs and referral services.
