James Stillwaggon, Of Counsel at White & Case LLP, received The Legal Aid Society's 2011 Public Interest Leadership Award for his extraordinary contribution as a pro bono attorney, a leader of White & Case’s outstanding pro bono programs, and a constant source of support to the Society and its clients. Under his leadership, White & Case was a founding law firm of the Criminal Defense Pro Bono Project in which the firm's associates allocate a third of their time over a nine-month period to provide additional and much needed legal resources to assist the Legal Aid Society's criminal defense attorneys with their substantial caseloads. He facilitated the creation of the General Counsel Externship, which provides invaluable assistance to the Society's General Counsel on a full range of corporate, real estate, insurance, contract, and ethics issues. Drawing on his many hears as an immigration attorney, Jim has worked collaboratively with the Immigration Unit to provide representation to unaccompanied immigrant youth.
