September's Outstanding Volunteers

Davis Polk & Wardwell is the receipient of The Legal Aid Society's 2007 Pro Bono Publico and Public Service Law Firm Awards to be presented by Judge Judith Kaye.   Learn more 

Sullivan & Cromwell won asylum for a political detainee from Chad earlier this year.  Working with the Refugee Assistance Program of the City Bar Justice Center, pro bono attorneys Yannick Carapito and Nilla Watkins worked tirelessy to put together a compelling case on behalf of their client.   Learn more

Upcoming Trainings

September 27: Private Placement Adoption and Guardianship Training
MFY’s Kinship Caregiver Law Project was created to help stabilize families, promote children’s security, and help prevent children from entering the foster care system. Pro bono attorneys are needed to provide full legal representation at guardianship and adoption proceedings. This training will educate and prepare attorneys on how to handle private placement adoption and guardianship proceedings in family court.  Learn more

October 1: VLA New Attorney Orientation
This Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts session will introduce you to VLA's programs and is a requirment to attend before participating in VLA Clinics or taking on a VLA matter.  Learn more

October 11: Pro Bono Expo
This Civil Court of the City of New York Expo is designed to demystify what it takes to do pro bono work and showcase the volunteer opportunities available to all attorneys regardless of experience, expertise or time restraints.  Join local judges and fellow attorneys for light refreshments and a fun evening.  Learn more

Urban Justice Center Announces $100,000 Innovations in Social Justice Award
The Urban Justice Center is proud to announce a one-time seed money grant to start a new, innovative Project at the UJC. They seek a highly qualified individual to develop a Project that will advocate for a marginalized and under-represented population in creative ways.
