Jessica F. Vasquez Named New Executive Director of the NYS Coalition Against Domestic Violence
Tuesday, March 21, 2006
- Organization: NYS Coalition Against Domestic Violence
We are delighted to announce that Jessica F. Vasquez, Esq. will assume the executive director position at the NYS Coalition Against Domestic Violence, effective March 27, 2006. Jessica is an excellent choice for this leadership role, and we are very excited to have such a strong, committed and energetic person as part of our team as we embark on the next stage of growth for the Coalition.
A search consultant was retained to guide us through the transition and an exhaustive national search for a new executive director was conducted. More than 40 resumes were reviewed and a joint board and staff search committee interviewed candidates. It was determined that Jessica most matched the strengths and skills we were looking for, and possessed the unique combination of talents necessary to lead the Coalition as the next executive director.
Most recently, Jessica has been president of her own consulting group, Athena Strategic Council, and has served on the Coalition board of directors for the last two years. While she was director of projects at Alianza: The National Latino Alliance for the Elimination of Domestic Violence, she also served on the board of the National Network to End Domestic Violence. Working as a staff attorney at New York Legal Assistance Group and as a Soros postgraduate fellow at the Center for Battered Women Services at Sanctuary for Families, Jessica has represented women who have been abused in a broad array of contexts.
Jessica is passionate about women's rights and committed to coalition building and strengthening programs. Jessica's experience as an advocate for women who've been abused, attorney, policy and research analyst, and nonprofit governance consultant will enrich the Coalition and help us strategize for the future. The Coalition has enjoyed tremendous growth in the past 27 years, and the Board and staff are eager and pleased to begin the next part of the journey with Jessica. We are confident you will be too.
Thank you for your support and we look forward to working with you to grow the Coalition and the Battered Women's Movement in New York.
Board President, NYS Coalition Against Domestic Violence
