Safe Horizon is seeking to hire a Staff Attorney for its Domestic Violence Law Project ("DVLP"). DVLP provides free legal representation to low-income and indigent domestic violence victims in family offense, custody/visitation, child support and divorce proceedings. In addition to individual case representation, DVLP operates a legal intake line to provide information, advice and referrals, conducts community outreach, education and training and participates in legislative and public policy initiatives designed to raise public awareness and end violence against domestic violence victims.
JOB DESCRIPTION: The Staff Attorney will represent domestic violence victims in family offense, custody and visitation cases in both Family Court and Integrated Domestic Violence Court. Attorney will be responsible for assisting clients with all aspects of the their cases including coordinating social services with other Safe Horizon programs. Additional responsibilities include conducting legal training seminars, participating in community outreach and education and engaging in policy and legislative efforts. Flexibility in hours is required; evening intake may be necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must be admitted to the New York State Bar, have family court or other litigation experience and have a strong commitment to working with domestic violence victims. Fluency in Spanish or other foreign language is strongly desired.
SALARY: Minimum low 50's, plus an excellent benefits package.
