Health Care Expanded for Visually-Impaired Diabetics

August 21, 2003--New York Governor George E. Pataki signed legislation into law that would expand health coverage for visually-impaired individuals with diabetes. The law will require certain health insurance policies to include coverage for blood glucose monitors for the visually impaired, upon recommendation by a physician.
Prior to the law, only legally blind individuals with diabetes were guaranteed health care coverage for such supplies.
The law will be effective January 1, 2004.
