This training will cover low-income tax preparation for undocumented persons; as well as the concepts of tax residency, dependents, filing status, and the child tax credit. Why do you see "married" returns when the USC spouse files as "head of household" and the undocumented spouse files as "single"? Does it need to be -- and can it be -- fixed? When should you file an amended return? This training will also address tax issues in adjustment of status, consular processing, and cancellation of removal. What is the "earned income credit" and when does it apply? How do you handle clients that were paid in cash or who receive a Form 1099. What is the self-employment tax? There will also be discussion of privacy issues as well as comprehensive immigration reform and how dangerous tax preparers and other unauthorized immigration legal service providers might take advantage of undocumented immigrants when legalization becomes law. The training will be conducted by Samuel C. Rock, Esq., of the Rock Law Group, PLC/founder of Patriot Tax International, LLC, and Director of ITIN Business Program at Jackson Hewitt.

Attendance at trainings is limited to staff of NYIC member agencies and the staff of government agencies, BIA-recognized agencies, and 501(c) nonprofit organizations that provide legal services under the direct supervision of an immigration attorney.

A fee will be charged for this training.
In case of economic hardship, fee waiver or reduction may be available upon request.
