Why You Should Attend:

Whether representing children, parents or a child welfare or foster care agency, in private practice, government, public interest practice or as a policy advocate, the issues and the environment in which advocates operate is increasingly complex. PLI's 11th Annual Children's Law Institute will review the latest developments in children's law, as well as strategies and techniques to secure essential rights and services for children.

What You Will Learn:

Challenges and innovation in child welfare and juvenile justice in New York State: recent accomplishments and planned improvements at the office of children and family services Innovative child welfare approaches to families where a parent is incarcerated Representing and Serving LGBTQ Youth in the child welfare and juvenile justice contexts

"Compassion Fatigue": Understanding the unique stressors in working with youth and families and the ethical responsibility of public servants to manage this stress in the workplace Who Should Attend Child, parent and family advocates working in New York State, in law, social work or public policy, in the private or public sector.

Full and partial scholarships to attend PLI's programs or view a webcast are available to legal aid and government attorneys, law professors, judges, judicial clerks, law students and employees of nonprofit organizations.
