Hunton & Williams LLP’s Charlotte Office Honored for Pro Bono Work

Tuesday, April 28, 2009

Charlotte, N.C. - Hunton & Williams LLP announces that the Charlotte office has been selected to receive the 2009 Mecklenburg County Bar "Large Firm Pro Bono Award." The award recognizes the efforts of Mecklenburg County lawyers working in a large firm who made a significant commitment towards pro bono work.

In 2008, the Charlotte office of Hunton & Williams dedicated 3,194 hours to pro bono service, an average of 60 hours per attorney. This represents more than four percent of the office's billable work dedicated to pro bono efforts, surpassing the goal of three percent set by the Law Firm Pro Bono Challenge. For the firm's fiscal year ending March 31, 2009, 100 percent of the attorneys practicing full-time in Charlotte participated in pro bono work.

"We are honored to receive this award from the Mecklenburg County Bar," said T. Thomas Cottingham III, managing partner of the Charlotte office. "Hunton & Williams is committed to pro bono service and is proud of the lawyers who dedicated their time and efforts to this important firm initiative."

Organizations that received pro bono assistance from the Charlotte office include: The Urban Ministry Center, Public Defender of the 26th Prosecutorial District, North Carolina Legal Aid Volunteer Lawyers Program, Legal Services of Southern Piedmont, Council for Children's Rights, North Carolina Lawyers for Entrepreneurs Assistance Project (NC Leap), Mecklenburg County Teen Court, McDowell Street Center for Family Law and Hammocks Beach Corporation. The award will be presented at the Mecklenburg County Bar Annual Meeting on Thursday, May 21.
