The lecture is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by the Knox College Journalism Program. While at Knox, Kirtley also will meet informally with Knox students and present a workshop on ethical issues for student media.
Kirtley is the Silha Professor of Media Ethics and Law in the School of Journalism, and Director of Silha Center for the Study of Media Ethics and Law, at the University of Minnesota.
Kirtley will discuss the First Amendment protections that give journalists what she calls "the right to be wrong," as well as how unethical behavior may lead to less legal protection.
