POSITION: Executive Director

AGENCY: Gulf Coast Fair Housing Center
LOCATION: Mississippi Gulf Coast
RESPONSIBLE TO: Board of Directors

RESPONSIBILITIES: Must be able to perform each essential duty exceptionally with the knowledge, skill and ability required. Must be dedicated to the fair housing rights of all protected classes.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Establish current and long range objectives, plans and policies subject to the approval of the Board of Directors.

Advise, guide and direct the implementation of plans and procedures consistent with established policies and Board approval.
Oversee the adequacy and soundness of the organization's financial structure.

Manage a complex workload including overseeing office administration, case management and public relations and education/outreach campaign.
Review operating results of the organization and take steps to ensure that appropriate measures are taken to correct unsatisfactory results.
Establish and maintain an effective system of communication throughout the organization.

Represent the organization to government agencies, major donors, the financial community and the general public.

Establish working relationships with other fair housing agencies, local housing advocacy and consumers groups and other non profit and community-based organizations.

Establish working relationships with local, state and federal housing agencies.

Maintain records related to client services, activities and data necessary for reports to governmental agencies.

Explore and coordinate all possibilities for new sources of funding, including fund raising, trainings, advertising and other appropriate activities.

Seek opportunities for media coverage of fair housing and the Council's services.

Implement the recruitment, training and nurturing of all volunteer personnel, particularly for the attorney panel.

Schedule and participate in staff meetings, attend all the Council's Board of Directors meetings and perform tasks related to the smooth running of the Council.

Track relevant legislation, regulations and local or state ordinances. Inform staff of changes in fair housing laws and regulations.

Participate in staff training to ensure maximum efficiency and accuracy of work. Participate in cross-training within the Council to promote teamwork and provide necessary back-up for each position.

Safeguard client's security and confidentiality.

Maintain a high level of credibility with the public and private sector and the general public.

Exhibit a high level of personal energy and commitment.

Assure leadership in a manner that demonstrates a commitment to the needs and concerns of those protected from discrimination by local, state and federal fair housing laws.

Strong leadership, management, fundraising and writing skills. Bachelors degree a minimum.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education Requirements: Advanced degree in law, social work or relevant field & work experience preferred. Bachelors degree in relevant field acceptable combined with experience in housing and/or civil rights.

Skill & Experience Requirements: Excellent writing and speaking skills. Superior organizing skills and leadership. Ability to access, read, analyze and interpret legal documents, general business periodicals, professional and legal journals, federal and state fair housing statutes and regulations and court cases. Ability to read, analyze and produce financial reports. Must be able to write monthly/quarterly reports, business correspondence and other organization materials. Must be able to present information clearly and effectively and respond to inquiries and commentary from the Board of Directors, housing advocacy and consumer groups, housing industry organizations, members of the public and private sector and the general public.
