"Preserving Homeownership: How Lawyers Can Help."

It's Spring Training Time!

Louisiana Appleseed volunteers have been hard at work on projects that seek to increase access to opportunity, education, and justice. We thought you might be interested in some unique training opportunities, related to their efforts.

Attorneys, do you need a free professionalism CLE hour?
• On Thursday, April 18th, in conjunction with the title clearing collaborative funded by the Greater New Orleans Foundation (GNOF), we will host a free one-hour professionalism CLE in New Orleans called "Preserving Homeownership in Our Communities: How Lawyers Can Help." It will begin at 11:30am, with lunch to follow at 12:30pm. If you are interested in attending, please email jhaynes@appleseednetwork.org to secure your spot. Space is limited; so sign up today!

Are you bilingual and interested in becoming registered as a court interpreter?
• Louisiana Appleseed has been working with the Louisiana Supreme Court and others, including the Louisiana Language Access Coalition, on court interpreter issues for the past three years. The goal has been to increase access to justice by improving the quality of interpreters in the judicial system. We are pleased to report that the Louisiana Supreme Court has joined a national consortium, adopted an Interpreter Code of Ethics, and now has developed a training and registration program for court interpreters. The trainings are state-wide and will begin in May. If you are interested in participating, please email jhaynes@appleseednetwork.org, and we will provide you with further information.
The Louisiana Legislature starts its session on April 8th! Stay tuned for more information from Louisiana Appleseed about our policy work at the Capitol.
