The Capital Habeas Unit of the Office of the Federal Public Defender for the Northern District of Ohio will be conducting their annual Ohio Capital Habeas Seminar on Friday, February 3, 2012 from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. The title this year is Habeas is Alive and Well: It Just Looks a Little Different. The location is the seventh floor auditorium of the federal courthouse in Cleveland, Ohio.

Attached is the agenda for this one day event and a registration form. This year we are honored to start our seminar with Phyllis Crocker, professor of law at Cleveland-Marshall Law School, Cleveland State University who will be speaking about the Ohio Supreme Court Joint Task Force on Capital Punishment. We are also honored to have the habeas gurus of John Blume and Mark Olive present to us how we can use the recent Supreme Court cases to still win habeas cases. There will be an update about the lethal injection litigation in Ohio by Allen Bohnert and Randall Porter. And finally, Pam Prude-Smithers and Kathy Sandford will tell us how we should not give up on the Ohio Parole Board when requesting clemency.
