Forensic Science Training for Capital Litigators, Western Region

The National Clearinghouse for Science, Technology and Law (NCSTL) is offering 2 two-day trainings on Forensic Science in Capital Litigation under BJA Grant # 2008-CP-BX-K011J.

This training is intended for prosecutors and defense attorneys who actively try capital cases. The two-day training will focus on forensic evidence collection, analysis, and evidentiary issues in relation to criminal capital trials. Potential topics may include but are not limited to: crime scene reconstruction, collection and packaging of evidence; using forensic experts in trial; forensic pathology; toxicology; pattern evidence; DNA; digital evidence , using experts in mitigation; and forensic science research.

All allowable expenses for attendance, including travel and most meals, will be covered under the BJA grant for attendees.
There are a limited number of slots for each training session and every effort will be made to incorporate as many states as possible, with priority given to practitioners who actively handle death penalty cases.
Every effort will be made to ensure equal distribution between prosecution and defense and all qualifying states. Submitting an application does not ensure a spot a training session. You will be informed of acceptance by October 9, 2009 for the November training.
