Association of the Bar of the City of New York COMMITTEE ON CAPITAL PUNISHMENT ANNUAL HABEAS CORPUS TRAINING FOR CAPITAL POST-CONVICTION ATTORNEYS House of the Association 42 West 44th Street Thursday, June 26, 2008 COURSE ANNOUNCEMENT AND REGISTRATION This free program is for attorneys who now have or are considering representing a capital client in habeas proceedings. This five hour (9AM-2PM) CLE program features nationally-recognized death penalty and habeas corpus experts. The program will include a review of recent Supreme Court decisions, a discussion of the implications of the United States Supreme Court decision in Baze v. Rees, ethical issues in post-conviction claims, and a keynote on the sanctity of the constitution in capital cases and habeas claims. There will also be two simultaneous sessions on habeas corpus, with one session for attorneys new to habeas work and one for those more experienced attorneys. The session will be followed by a luncheon with a keynote address to be given by Virginia Capital Defender and prominent civil rights attorney David Baugh, who was has been recognized as a Human Rights Hero by the American Bar Association.
