Immigration Remedies for Survivors of Domestic Violence

This training will provide attorneys with an overview of the different immigration remedies available for survivors of domestic violence. The training will prepare attorneys to represent clients in: VAWA self-petitions, Battered Spouse Waivers, U-visas, T-visas, and gender-based asylum claims. Trainers will also offer suggestions for cultural competency when working with immigrant survivors of domestic violence. Attorneys, summer associates and interns are encouraged to attend. Training participants are asked to commit to accept at least one pro bono immigration case referral from WEAVE in the course of a year. Breakfast and refreshments will be provided. Registration will be capped at 35 participants. There is no cost for this training. Registration form must be received by Friday, June 27th, 2008. Please note that pro bono training sessions are not MCLE-accredited.
