Pro Se Simple Uncontested Divorce Forms for Indigent Litigants in Orleans Parish:
Lawhelp.org/la has automated court forms and related resources for very simple Orleans Parish divorce cases, available on the Self Help Court Forms area of www.lawhelp.org/la. This is an important step in using technology to increase resources for indigent pro se litigants.
These computerized forms allow pro se litigants to draft a pleadings package by answering questions during an online interview. The litigant's answers are incorporated into the forms. The pro se litigant may then print out the forms package and related information. Lawhelp.org/la also provides information to site visitors about the forms, related resources, and information about how to navigate the external site that hosts the computer programs used to create the automated forms.
The uncontested divorce forms represent the work of a pilot project for the Civil District Court for the Parish of Orleans (CDC). These automated uncontested divorce forms on lawhelp.org/la are for use only in Orleans Parish for very basic cases filed by indigent pro se litigants.
These automated forms are hosted by NPADO, or National Public Automated Documents Online, soon to be renamed LawHelp Interactive. NPADO provides valuable logistical and technical support. The online forms are created with HotDocs and A2J Author software. Nonprofit legal services organizations around the country use HotDocs and A2J Author to develop online resources for a wide range of legal issues.
The CDC forms were developed through the collaborative efforts of Southeast Louisiana Legal Services, the Civil District Court for the Parish of Orleans, and the Louisiana Family Law Task Force. This pilot project receives support from the LSC TIG (Technology Initiative Grant) program.
Louisiana Housing and Employment Automated Forms also Available on www.lawhelp.org/la:
