MVLS volunteers have participated in the Governor's Foreclosure Prevention Pro Bono Project as well as several foreclosure prevention initiatives in Maryland over the past 3 years. Since the project began, volunteers have worked with 500 homeowners to help them avoid foreclosure through loan modifications. While not all homeowners are able to keep their homes, having the help of a lawyer through the process ensures that they are fairly treated by lenders. Executive Director Bonnie Sullivan notes, "The Foreclosure Prevention Pro Bono Project is a successful public-private partnership and a model in many other states. I'm proud of the many volunteer lawyers that stepped up when asked to help by Chief Judge Robert Bell."
