The San Francisco Board of Supervisors has issued a Proclamation "recognizing the week of October 25-31, 2009 as the first National Pro Bono Week Celebration." Board of Supervisors President David Chiu will present the Proclamation at a Pro Bono Reception which will be held in connection with Pro Bono Week at 5:30 PM, October 29, 2009, at the California State Building in San Francisco. More than six million Californians live below 125% of the federal poverty level, the Proclamation notes. The Proclamation "commends California attorneys, for their ongoing pro bono contributions" and recognizes that they "make a significant difference in the lives of California's poor who could not otherwise have access to the legal system".
