The SCRA program was set up to provide limited pro bono legal assistance to active duty military servicemembers who are named in a civil lawsuit or family court matter. Through this program, volunteer attorneys on the SCRA panel will apply a stay in the proceeding pursuant to the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act, thus protecting active duty servicemembers from default judgments at a time when they are serving their country. Representatives from the SDCBA, San Diego Superior Court, the Navy, the Marine Corps, and Bar Association of Northern San Diego County have worked together for over a year to develop this program, to meet a growing need.
