Providing pro bono assistance to charitable organizations (or nonprofit agencies, regardless of tax-exempt status, who serve the disadvantaged) is a valuable and important service to the community. However, these organizations operate with many constraints under federal tax law and relevant State statutes given their dedication to public benefit purposes. This session is designed to help practitioners Avoid some of the most common pro bono mistakes! Three exempt organizations law practitioners will discuss typical errors they've seen made by pro bono attorneys when setting up and advising charities, as well as in assisting with frequently-seen transactions and other events for nonprofits in which it's important that pro bono counsel know not to overlook the need for interdisciplinary counsel.
