The Asian Pacific American Legal Center (APALC) is organizing a series of monthly legal clinics on detention and deportation for residents of Southern California.

For too long, those subject to the tragic and permanent consequences of immigration law’s most punitive measures have struggled without accessible and reliable information and assistance. The clinics will endeavor to provide immigrants and their families with the information they need in order to make the best choices for themselves. The clinic will be staffed entirely of volunteers, and we need your help and expertise to make it a success!

We have two opportunities for volunteer attorneys:

1. Clinic: Provide case-specific legal information to clinic attendees through volunteer intake takers. Attorneys’ time will be devoted solely to analyzing cases and providing legal counsel based on information gathered by non-attorney volunteers.

2. Pro Bono Representation: Provide legal services for low-income individuals possessing cases with potential remedies. Cases will be selected by APALC from its monthly clinics and matched with pro bono attorneys. Pro bono attorneys will be expected to provide counsel and representation through final resolution of the case and to provide regular updates to APALC. Alternatively, please let us know if you are interested in supervising attorneys with limited experience in immigration law with deportation cases. We may be able to find young enthusiastic lawyers at firms, but they will need a bit of guidance and supervision. As the laws pertaining to deportation tend to be dense and complex and the potential consequences to families severe, we ask that you have experience in handling these types of cases.. Training and supervision by APALC will be very limited.
