We invite immigration defense practitioners, both new and experienced, to this seminar, covering emerging issues in criminal and immigration law and their application to California convictions and immigration proceedings. One of the key defense strategies in crim/imm cases is the "categorical approach," often referred to as the rules governing divisible statutes and the record of conviction.

The seminar will cover selected defense tools based on the categorical approach, especially in light of Nijhawan v. Holder, 557 U.S. ___ (July 15, 2009). We will also discuss defense strategies for convictions charged as crimes involving moral turpitude. This will be an interactive seminar, featuring a lesson of advanced defense strategies, as well as a discussion between our panel of experts, with ample time for questions and dialogue with participants.
